Shopping Local on a Whole Other Level - Highly Recommending Raleigh's Uptown Cheapskate

You've heard of shopping local but let’s take it to another level and shop the local’s closets. Uptown Cheapskate first opened its fabulous doors in 2009 and shopping has never been the same. The concept is consignment but this is far from hand-me-downs.

The items shown are ones that are similar or the same as ones which I have personally purchased from the store, to give you an idea of what the type of items you'll come across.

The selection consists of clothes that look like they recently came off the retail rack and are a mixture of classic and daring items to complete your closet.  Thumbing through their well-organized assortments, you will likely come across high end brand names like Coach, Vera Wang, Michael Kors and more. Although the names may awe you- the sticker shock will take you back even more when you realize you can get these treasured garments for well under the triple digits. I've personally purchased a Vera Wang shirt for less than $20 and continued to stock up on shoes, purses and accessories without breaking $100 bucks.

Here’s some tips to make the most of your trip...
  1. Bring some items with you for the store to sift through while you shop. This is a great way to make space in your closet for the new items and you can opt for store credit to go towards your new purchases- which is even more saving!
  2. GO BOLD. Sure you can score with some staple items like jeans, a black blazer or a cardi but with prices like this you can afford to take a risk. Try something on that you normally wouldn't wear or don’t think you can pull off . Not sure what to put with your adventurous grab- ask the staff!  I have to give the Raleigh store kudos on this  part. Usually if I’m stuck they can pull something right off the rack that completes me.  This store sets the bar for filling their outlet with fashion forward and focused staff that can help you complete an outfit in less than a minute.
  3. Look up-and around! This savvy styled staff often creates the look on their mannequins. These items are also for purchase, whether you want the entire attire or just the top or jacket.
What's in your closet?
